Dr. Lonny D. Grimmer has been practicing dentistry in the Northern Virginia area since 1997, first as an associate in Purcellville, and now as co-owner of the Ashbrook Center for Dentistry in Ashburn. Originally a California native, Dr. Grimmer earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in International Business at California State University in Sacramento in 1986. Dr. Grimmer pursued an earlier career in international business, working for large Japanese corporations in Los Angeles, California. However, following a high school dream to become a dentist, Dr. Grimmer moved his family to Virginia in 1993, and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the Medical College of Virginia – Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in Richmond in 1997. Dr. Grimmer has been named one of the DC area’s Top Dentists by Washingtonian Magazine, since 2014. Dr. Grimmer continues today to put a high priority on continuing his dental education. He travels the country every year to attend the best courses in all dental disciplines, including a special focus on cosmetic and implant dentistry. He is committed to staying current with all of the newest dental techniques, skills, and technology, that will allow him give to his patients the highest quality care that modern dentistry has to offer.
Dr. Grimmer received his Fellowship Award in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) in 2008 at the Academy’s Convocation ceremony in Orlando, Florida. He then continued his training to earn the prestigious Mastership Award at the AGD's Annual Meeting in 2019. The Mastership Award is the highest AGD honor available, and is given to only one percent of all dentists throughout the world. To earn this award, Dr. Grimmer completed over 1,100 hours of continuing dental education in all dental disciplines and pass a comprehensive written examination. As a recipient of this award, Dr. Grimmer has joined an elite group of dentists who have met a comprehensive set of rigorous requirements in all disciplines of dentistry, showing his commitment to provide his patients with the the very best skill and knowledge available in the world of dentistry today.
Dr. Grimmer is an active member in several dental organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentisty, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He also serves as a Delegate of the Northern Virginia Dental Society, representing Northern Virginia dentists at the annual Virginia dental meeting.
Dr. Grimmer volunteers his time monthly to provide dental services for the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic in Sterling. This clinic provides badly needed dental care to the under-served population of Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. He also participates in annual events such as the Mission of Mercy Project, and the Smiles Across Loudoun Project, which provide thousands of low-income residents all across Virginia with free dental care.
Because Dr. Grimmer lives and works in Loudoun County, he enjoys being active in volunteering in this great community. In the recent past, he has served as a Member of the Board of Directors for business organizations, and Little League organizations. He has also been a volunteer coach for most of his sons’ baseball, basketball, and football teams, and has served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America for many years. In addition, he enjoys volunteer work as an active member of his Church.
Dr. Grimmer lives in Leesburg, and has been married to his wife Dorothy for 36 years. They have five sons, and six granchildren and counting. When time allows, Dr. Grimmer also enjoys cycling, tennis with his wife, working out at the gym, landscaping projects at home, traveling overseas, watching movies, and cheering on the World Champion Washington Nationals. When he can, he also loves to attend high school sporting events that his patients and their families participate in.<
